LISTOWEL BRANCH NEWS
Welcome to the new webpage of the Listowel Branch of the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario (RWTO)
Our motto is Caring and Sharing
We currently have 28 members. Our group meets four times a year – April, June, September and October. We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. and after our meeting and program we have a catered lunch. We meet in various places in the Listowel area, but usually at Knox Presbyterian Church. However, in June, we usually undertake an outing, such as a theatre performance or a tour of a place of interest.
We sponsor Sleeping Children Around the World, our local Listowel Library, and the School Backpack Program with the local Salvation Army. In October, we have an auction of donated items, the proceeds of which go toward our various charities, especially the Backpack Program.
Despite being one of the smaller branches, two of our recent accomplishments were the “Feather in Your Hat Award” for our involvement in the backpack program and a cash award for our increase in membership. We also had four recipients of the Cora Bailey Award in 2011.
Recent and upcoming events are a tour of The Meadows, the second phase of the Perth Meadows adult lifestyle campus, and Jeff Sage, platoon commander for Perth County EMS, who will be speaking on health issues for Seniors.
